Georgia Physical Therapy Continuing Education Requirements & License Renewal
Licensed physical therapists and physical therapist assistants in Georgia must complete a total of 30 hours of continuing education every two years as part of the license renewal process. These continuing competence requirements are set by the Georgia State Board of Physical Therapy and apply on a biennial basis.
Within the 30 total hours, specific topics are mandated:
- 4 hours must be in Georgia ethics and jurisprudence. This requirement may be met either by completing an approved ethics and jurisprudence course or by passing the Georgia Jurisprudence Examination, provided the exam result has not already been submitted for licensure credit.
- Online Limitations: A maximum of 10 hours may be completed per calendar day.
Continuing education must relate to physical therapy practice and help maintain or improve professional competence. The board does not pre-approve individual courses; it is the licensee’s responsibility to ensure that chosen activities meet state requirements and are acceptable for continuing competence.
All continuing education clock hours earned are counted only during the current biennium and may not be carried forward to future cycles. Certain activities, such as peer reviews, presentations, academic courses, and formal clinical instruction, may qualify for CE credit when they meet board criteria.
Licensees must retain documentation of completed continuing education, and the board may audit records to verify compliance. For detailed guidance on acceptable activities and reporting procedures, practitioners should refer to official board resources.
Our Georgia continuing education courses are designed to meet these state requirements while supporting your professional development and clinical skills. Visit our FAQ page for answers about course access, reporting, and certificates.
