Florida Physical Therapy Continuing Education Requirements & License Renewal

Florida requires licensed physical therapists and physical therapist assistants to complete 24 hours of continuing education every two years as a condition of license renewal. These hours must be completed within the 24-month renewal cycle established by the Florida Board of Physical Therapy.

Within the 24 total hours, specific topics are mandated:

  • 2 hours in the prevention of medical errors during each renewal cycle
  • 1 hour of HIV/AIDS education (for the first license renewal only)

The remaining hours may be elective and selected based on clinical interests and professional goals. Florida permits up to 12 of the 24 required hours to be completed through online or home study coursework. Live, in-person, and interactive webinar formats may also qualify, when approved.

Continuing education must be completed prior to the end of each two-year renewal period. Licensees are responsible for maintaining documentation of completed coursework and reporting hours in accordance with state regulations.

For the most current renewal requirements and compliance details, practitioners should consult the Florida Board of Physical Therapy directly.

Our Florida continuing education courses are designed to help you meet state requirements while advancing your clinical knowledge and patient care skills. Visit our FAQ page for answers about course access, reporting, and certificates.

    AJ Johnson

    Detroit, MI

The evidence presented was the most recent possible, encompassing a progressive biopsychosocial model, and applicable immediately to clients and patients the next day in clinic. ICE has the best model and I will definitely be taking more of their courses to help become the best PT I can be.

    Kyle Denlinger

    Baltimore, MD

ICE courses have absolutely changed how I practice as a clinician. They have made me hold myself to a higher standard as a PT and have completely reversed the burned-out feeling I was starting to have as a therapist. I cannot recommend ICE courses enough!

    Rachel Moore

    Houston, TX

The Institute of Clinical Excellence has changed the way I practice PT. I am so excited for their weekly Hump Day Hustling email. Each class I have taken has been worth every penny. I would strongly recommend any of their courses as a stand-alone or to dig into their #BeAboutIt drive to transform physical therapy to partner with patients to achieve health and wholeness and not just be a part of the medical system.
