WHAT REQUIREMENTS DOES MY STATE HAVE? \nIn the United States\, only physical therapists (PT)\, medical doctors (MD)\, doctors of osteopathy (DO)\, and chiropractic physicians (DC) are allowed to perform dry needling. The ability for these providers to perform dry needling depends entirely on state. Please read the list below and reference the map to know if you are allowed to dry needle\, and what your requirements may be. These are the requirements for physical therapists. If you are a provider from another profession\, contact your state board or association to learn more. YOU ARE ULTIMATELY RESPONSIBLE TO KNOW THE LEGALITIES SURROUNDING DRY NEEDLING IN YOUR STATE AS WELL AS THE EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO PERFORM DRY NEEDLING WITH PATIENTS. If you are unsure of your requirements or if you practice in multiple states\, contact your state association or board to clarify requirements. \nPlease note: our dry needling courses require pre-course homework & exams prior to the beginning of the first day of class. Course emails are sent 4 weeks ahead of class to give you time to complete this work. For this reason\, once you receive the course email with access to material\, a refund is no longer possible. You may transfer to another dry needling course instead. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nPT Dry Needling Hours by State\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n Welcome to the PT Dry Needling Requirements Guide\n This interactive resource helps physical therapists find out what each state requires before you can dry needle: minimum training hours\, any experience or supervised-session requirements\, and links to the licensing board where you apply. Search for your state below or click it on the map to see the details.\n \n Please note: This guide was created with the help of AI and may contain errors or out-of-date information. Dry needling rules change often. Always confirm the current requirements with your state's physical therapy licensing board before you begin dry needling. Supervised patient sessions are listed separately because they are counted in sessions\, not hours.\n Links. Every state links to its physical therapy licensing board\, taken from the FSBPT licensing authority directory. Where the board publishes a dry needling page\, rule\, application or approved-course list\, that is linked too. Board sites move pages often\, so if a link breaks\, start from the board homepage.\n Confidence. Each state shows whether its figure was checked against the rule or statute text\, or comes from a secondary summary. Rules change\, so confirm with the state board before relying on a number.\n Sources: state statutes and rules for FL (§486.117 and 64B17-6.008)\, MD (COMAR 10.38.12.03)\, NJ Board of PT dry needling page\, WA HB 1039 final bill report\, IL Public Act 100-0418\, TN 1150-01-.22\, UT Code 58-24b-505 and R156-24b-505\, NV PT Board\, DE 2600-15.0\, IN Board practice ruling\, NC 21 NCAC 48C .0104\, NM 16.20.13 NMAC\, GA Board approval guide\, WY 062-7 §7-3\, LA LAC 46:LIV.311\, MS Board regulation\, AZ Board FAQ\, ID dry needling guidance (Feb 2026)\, KS K.A.R. 100-29-18\, SD ARSD 20:66:04:02\, NE 172 NAC 137-006\, DC policy statement\, VA 18VAC112-20-121\, OR HB 3824 (enrolled); plus summaries from Integrative Dry Needling\, PPHC (Jan 2026)\, Master Dry Needling and Myopain Seminars (Feb 2026). SUMMARY:Pelvic Online Level 1
DESCRIPTION:Course Overview\n Pregnancy\, Postpartum\, Menopause\nPelvic floor complaints are grossly underdiagnosed and therefore often time mismanaged. We see sharp increases in rates of pelvic floor dysfunction in women/ females during key milestones in their lives including pregnancy\, postpartum and menopause; we also see significant increases around middle-age for men / males. That means whether you consider yourself a pelvic floor therapist\, you are working with people who are experiencing pelvic floor complaints. The primary objective of this continuing education course is to equip clinicians with a comprehensive understanding of pelvic floor anatomy and physiology\, while also addressing the unique considerations and challenges that arise across the female lifespan\, including menstrual cycle phases\, pregnancy\, postpartum\, menopause\, and sport-related pelvic floor dysfunction (resistance\, aerobic\, and body weight training). \nThe continuing education course starts with an introduction to the pelvic floor before transitioning into exploring pelvic floor complaints across the female lifespan. These include changes in physiology during the menstrual cycle\, pregnancy\, postpartum and menopause with considerations to common musculoskeletal complaints and exercise considerations for each phase. The course then shifts to navigating pelvic floor complaints across different types of exercise.  Through online learning\, community discussion\, and weekly meetings the instructors will interact with the cohort as students attend meetings and submit quizzes based on cases from the week’s material. The live meeting sessions will give students the unique ability to ask questions of the instructors\, go through case examples and discuss the considerations and issues that may arise with this population. \n \nPelvic Floor Course\nYou do not need to be\, or aim to be\, an internal pelvic floor therapist to take this course. This continuing education course will cover pelvic floor anatomy\, introduce pelvic floor assessment concepts and give you the tools to know when to refer to internal pelvic floor clinician. All clinicians need a working knowledge of the pelvic floor. \nThis is an 8-week ONLINE continuing education course. All content (videos\, resources\, etc.) is delivered through our online learning platform with discussion facilitated through the ICE Physio App. \nLive video conference calls take place weekly to discuss content and dive deeper into the material. These meetings take place on Thursdays at 7 PM EST and are recorded if you cannot attend live. While live attendance is optional\, you will be responsible for viewing the recording afterwards as you will be assessed on the content discussed. \n  \n \n \n \n \n \n Schedule\n \nWeek One\nPelvic floor dysfunction \nWeek Two\nThe menstrual cycle and relative energy deficiency in sport (RED-S) \nWeek Three\nPregnancy physiology\, pregnant-related complications\, and the evidence for exercise \nWeek Four\nEarly postpartum care \n\n\nWeek Five\nMenopause and the active individual \nWeek Six\nPelvic floor considerations for resistance training \nWeek Seven\nPelvic floor considerations for bodyweight movements (Yoga\, Pilates\, gymnastics\, and calisthenics) \nWeek Eight\nPelvic floor considerations for impact (Running\, jumping\, "boot camp"\, and sport \n\n \n \n \n \n \n Objectives\n \nMaster pelvic floor anatomy and physiology.\nRecognize menstrual cycle phases and sex hormones and their athletic performance impact.\nUnderstand exercise physiology\, including pregnancy-related complications and the use of exercise for management.\nProvide early postpartum care for core and pelvic floor.\nGain understanding of the menopausal effects on female health\, exercise\, and genitourinary syndrome.\nIntegrate core and pelvic floor considerations for bodyweight exercises like gymnastics\, calisthenics\, and yoga.\nTreat pelvic floor dysfunction in endurance athletes (e.g.\, runners) and strength training athletes (e.g.\, weightlifters\, high intensity exercisers).\n\n \n \n \n \n \n Additional Information\n PREREQUISITES \n\nNone\n\nEDUCATION LEVEL \n\nEntry-level

It provides instruction on establishing an LLC\, FEIN\, NPI\, education about and registering for private insurance and Medicare\, front end/back end\, marketing\, and a basic understanding of taxes and budgeting. Without this course\, I would have been required to learn the hard way about all of the requirements for opening a new physical therapy clinic and I'm sure I would have inevitably failed. After this course\, I have a new understanding of the level of commitment and risk required to open my own practice. If I do open my own practice\, and if I am successful\, I owe a huge debt of gratitude to Alan Fredendall."\n- K.B. from Florida \n"Brick by Brick is a top-notch course. It walks through a straightforward curriculum that provides a detailed plan geared toward opening up a clinic in an efficient timeframe. Alan is a fantastic instructor who is a well of knowledge. During the weekly live meetings\, there’s a lot of time and opportunity to clarify questions and discuss concerns. I’m very glad I took the time to utilize this course and I feel much more prepared to move forward with going out on my own. Thank you ICE!"\n- E.H. from Georgia \n"I have taken business & practice management courses in the past that cost thousands of dollars and learned 10x more in this course that cost a fraction of the others. It gave me actionable steps to actually start treating patients on my own and made me feel confident that I can do it myself. Highly recommended for anyone considering starting a practice!"\n- L.A. from Illinois \n"This course has provided a lot of valuable information that can be accessed at any time as I begin my business. SUMMARY:Dry Needling: Lower Body
DESCRIPTION:Course Overview\n \nDry Needling Certification\nLower Quadrant Dry Needling by ICE Physio brings a modern approach to dry needling education with contemporary methods and tactical e-stim applications for the lower quadrant. This weekend lab intensive course will initially focus on safe and effective dry needling technique for the thoraco-lumbar spine\, hip\, anterior and posterior thigh\, and lower leg; and then highlight strategic e-stim applications for common lower quadrant conditions. Quickly become a confident and proficient dry needling practitioner equipped with the tools\, training\, and knowledge to help your patients with everything from pain relief\, to improved function and mobility\, to athlete recovery. \n\n\n \n\nParticipants will also have access to pre-course lecture content including an introduction to dry needling\, safety standards\, current research-based rationale of therapeutic mechanisms\, and advocacy; as well as video demonstration prep materials for the lab intensive component. \nWHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE 2-DAY AND 3-DAY COURSE? \nDepending on your state\, you may be required to have at least 27 hours of in-person dry needling training before you are legally allowed to perform techniques in clinic. We hold the 3-day version of our course in states that have a higher contact hour requirements. You may elect to attend a 2-day course held in another state\, but you are ultimately responsible to ensure you have the mandatory minimum amount of training to use dry needling in the clinic. \n2-day courses are approved for 27 hours (Two\, nine-hour days in-person and 9 hours of online content). \n3-day courses are approved for 36 hours (Three\, nine-hour days in-person and 9 hours of online content). \n\n \n \n \n \n \n 3-Day Course Itinerary\n \nDAY ONE \n8:00am - 8:15am Welcome \n8:15am - 8:45amIntro to DN lecture \n8:45am - 9:30amDN basics lab \n9:30am - 9:45amDN safety lecture \n9:45am - 12:00pmAnterior thigh lecture & lab \n12:00pm - 1:00pmLUNCH \n1:00pm - 3:00pmAnterior hip lecture & lab \n3:00pm - 6:00pmPosterior thigh lecture & lab \n\n\nDAY TWO \n8:00am - 8:15amWelcome back!/Q&A \n8:15am - 9:15amRound robin review \n9:15am - 9:30amE-stim for pain modulation lecture \n9:30am - 11:00amLower leg: part 1 lecture & lab \n11:00am - 12:00pmLowr leg: part 2 lecture & lab \n12:00pm - 1:00pmLUNCH \n1:00pm - 3:00pmLower spine lecture & lab \n3:00pm - 6:00pmPosterior hip lecture & lab \n\n\nDAY THREE \n8:00am - 8:15amWelcome back!/Q&A \n8:15am - 9:15amRound robin review \n9:15am - 10:30amFoot lecture & lab \n10:30am - 10:45amE-stim for neuromuscular changes \n10:45am - 11:30amNeuromuscular stimulation lab \n11:30am - 12:00pmCompetency check \n12:00pm - 1:00pmLUNCH \n1:00pm - 3:00pmAlternative positions lab \n3:00pm - 3:15pmE-stim for fluid dynamics \n3:15pm - 4:15pmRecovery lab \n4:15pm - 6:00pmClinical chat & wrap-up \n\n \n \n \n \n \n 2-Day Course Itinerary\n \nDAY ONE \n\n8:00am - 8:15am Welcome \n8:15am - 8:45amIntro to DN lecture \n8:45am - 9:30amDN basics lab \n9:30am - 9:45amDN safety lecture \n9:45am - 11:30amAnterior thigh lecture & lab \n\n\n11:30am - 12:00pmAnterior hip lecture \n12:00pm - 1:00pmLUNCH \n1:00pm - 2:30pmAnterior hip lab \n2:30pm - 4:00pmPosterior thigh lecture & lab \n4:00pm - 6:00pmLower leg lecture & lab \n\n\n\nDAY TWO \n\n8:00am - 8:15amWelcome back!/Q&A \n8:15am - 9:15amRound robin review \n9:15am - 9:30amE-stim for pain modulation \n9:30am - 10:30amPosterior hip lecture & lab \n10:30am - 12:00pmLower spine lecture & lab \n12:00pm - 1:00pmLUNCH \n1:00pm - 1:15pmE-stim for neuromuscular changes \n\n\n1:15pm - 1:45pmNeuromuscular stimulation lab \n1:45pm - 2:30pm Competency check \n2:30pm - 3:30pm Alternative positions lab \n3:30pm - 3:45pm E-stim for fluid dynamics \n3:45pm - 4:45pm Recovery lab \n4:45pm - 6:00pmClinical chat & wrap-up \n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n Objectives\n \nExamine how our updated\, research-based understanding of dry needling mechanisms fit into pathomechanistic models of function\, pain\, and rehab\nExamine research trends associated with dry needling from early use to current state\nInvestigate some of the research-based treatment effects of dry needling in the context of targeted and specific treatment intent\nIdentify contraindications and precautions along associated with dry needling for the lower quarter\nIdentify relevant lower quarter myofascial and neurovascular anatomy associated with proper and effective application of dry needling\nDiscuss minor and major adverse events associated with dry needling and strategies to manage\, mitigate\, and minimize these risks with proper dry needling technique\nDiscuss and execute clean needle handling associated with dry needling techniques\nDemonstrate safe and effective dry needling techniques to specified lower quarter anatomical tissue targets\nDemonstrate strategic and effective execution of indwelling electrical stimulation circuits for the clinical management of lower quarter conditions\n\n \n \n \n \n \n Additional Information\n PREREQUISITES \n\nNone\n\nEDUCATION LEVEL \n\nEntry-level\n\nHOW DO I KNOW IF I'M ALLOWED TO DRY NEEDLE? Where a state splits hours (general vs. dry-needling-specific\, didactic vs. practicum)\, the total is shown and the split is in the course details. Last updated October 2026.\n \n \n\n \n Find a state\n \n \n Clear\n \n \n Pick a state to see its requirements and where to apply.\n \n\n \n \n \n Small states:\n \n \n \n \n Not allowed\n Allowed:\n No hour minimum\n 24–27 hrs\n 50–59 hrs\n 74–80 hrs\n 100+ hrs\n No ruling yet / pending\n \n \n\n \n All\n Has an hour minimum\n Requires experience or supervised sessions\n No hour minimum\n No ruling / pending\n Not allowed\n \n\n \n \n \n State ↕\n Min. hours ↕\n Course details\n Experience / supervised practice\n Other notes\n Where to apply\n \n \n \n No states match that search.\n \n\n \n How to read this. "Min. hours" is the smallest amount of formal dry needling instruction the state names. Where a state splits hours (general vs. dry-needling-specific\, didactic vs. practicum)\, the total is shown and the split is in the course details.
