Course Overview

Physical Therapy Running Course: In Person

This course will provide an evidenced-based and practical approach to the evaluation and treatment of the injured runner. Didactic lectures will focus on current literature pertaining to epidemiology, running mechanics, and therapeutic exercise. Video-based case studies will also be presented to enhance the lectures and provide the “big picture” view of the injured runner. An overview of gait-analysis and running mechanics will be provided. Strategies for gait re-training will also be discussed. Participants are expected to have a basic understanding of biomechanics and gait analysis, and are encouraged to review basic biomechanics of gait prior to the course.

A video-based lab session will focus on gait analysis of the injured runner. Small groups will review and discuss mechanics and propose treatments based on the provided videos. The overall course objective is to provide participants with the “whole picture” of rehabilitating injured runners and provide practical treatments that maybe utilized immediately in the clinic.
