SUMMARY:Fitness Athlete: L1 Online
DESCRIPTION:Course Overview\n What is Fitness Athlete L1 Online?\nThis 8-week\, online course is designed for the rehabilitation provider looking to work with the CrossFit athlete/functional fitness athlete (Orange Theory\, FitBody Boot Camp\, etc.)\, powerlifter\, Olympic weightlifter\, bodybuilder\, or recreational gym go'er. Whether you have never worked with these populations\, work with them on a regular basis\, or hope to work with them in the future\, this course is designed for you. \nCommon clinical patterns will be shared each week via case studies\, as well as ways to assess in the clinic when coaching isn't getting the job done in the gym. Research will be shared that supports the use of heavier lifting & high intensity exercise in the clinic to help patients already active in the gym or facilitate others towards a more fitness forward lifestyle. \nStudents will be brought up to date on important topics related to diet & nutrition\, sleep\, supplements\, and recovery modalities. \nThe most common barbell & gymnastics movements\, such as the back squat\, deadlift\, shoulder press\, pull-up\, etc. will be covered asynchronously as a complement to the points of performance\, faults\, and coaching cues taught in our Fitness Athlete Live seminar. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n Format\n All content (videos\, resources\, etc.) is delivered through our online learning platform with discussion facilitated through the ICE Physio App. \nHomework will consist of 8 weeks of lecture\, programming homework\, and quizzes. \nLive video conference calls take place weekly to discuss content and dive deeper into the material. These meetings take place on Mondays at 8 PM EST and are recorded if you cannot attend live. While live attendance is optional\, you will be responsible for viewing the recording afterwards as you will be assessed on the content discussed. \nStudents can expect to need to dedicate 2 hours per week to class between lecture & homework. \n \n \n \n \n \n Schedule\n \nWeek OneLecture: What is a fitness-forward provider?Lecture: Introduction to loadingCase study: Anterior knee painHomework: Quiz \nWeek TwoLecture: Squat scienceCase study: Medial knee painHomework: QuizWeek ThreeLecture: Deadlift scienceCase study: Flexion-intolerant low back painHomework: Quiz \nWeek FourLecture: Building robust backsCase study: Extension-intolerant low back painHomework: Quiz \n\n\nWeek FiveLecture: Nutrition\, sleep\, and recoveryCase study: Shoulder pain with vertical pressingHomework: quiz \nWeek SixLecture: Long-term effects of loadingCase study: Shoulder pain with vertical pullingHomework: quiz \nWeek SevenLecture: Building aerobic capacityCase study: Wrist & elbow pain in the overhead athleteHomework: Quiz \nWeek EightLecture: Introduction to programmingHomework: The rEMOM \n\n \n \n \n \n \n Objectives\n \nUnderstand the current state of functional fitness as a training methodology\nUnderstand why and how functional movements relate to different populations\nUnderstand concepts of tissue capacity and load management as it relates to the fitness athlete\nUnderstand the foundational movements commonly found in functional fitness training\nDevelop a framework for observing\, analyzing\, assessing\, and correcting the foundational movement patterns\nDevelop strategies for coaching\, cueing\, and correcting movement efficiency\nUnderstand how to program accessory movements based on perceived limitations\n\n \n \n \n \n \n Additional Information\n While not pre-approved by CrossFit HQ for CEUs\, CrossFit HQ will manually accept any of the Fitness Athlete courses for 16 CEUs towards your CrossFit Level 3 credential renewal through the individual approval process. \nPREREQUISITES \n\nNone\n\nEDUCATION LEVEL \n\nEntry-level\n\nPlease Note: Our online courses require active participation to be awarded credit which may include reading\, homework assignments\, and quizzes.
